Rising 10th Grade Collage Aged
Students are welcome to apply to be a leader for MSDC 2012. Applications were due to the office for review and processing before interviews by April 22nd; however if your application is stellar we can still get you in for a late interview! Good and Loving God, source of all that is good, at the Last Supper your Son, Jesus, gave the sacrament of his holy body and blood to his disciples and to the whole church. May the Eucharist our child has received today keep him/her close to Jesus and unite us in love for all God’s children. May the presence of Christ fill the hearts of all who receive him on the first Communion day. May the sacrifice of Christ teach our son/daughter how to love others with all his/her heart and may the sacrament he/she has received help him/her live as a worthy child of God. Amen

1. Call to Order at 7:15 with Opening Prayer
2. Minutes from March 20th meeting have been approved and posted to the website.
3. Liaison Reports:
Liturgy – Pat Ray reported all went well Cemetery – Meeting on Thursday Fall Festival – Jeff reported they had just received their first emails about the upcoming year. Scott and Sara Watters will be Chairs this year. They are looking for two more couples. Grand Raffle needs a new chair. CCW – Very busy. Doing two scholarships this year and keeping them within the St. Henry community. Hispanic Community – Monica reported they meet every other month. Faith in Action – Jerome reported they are looking for direction from Pastoral Council for new projects. Thinking about a Ministry Fair in the Fall. Someone wondered if it could be included with the Fall Festival when many folks are in attendance. Father wondered what the mission of the group was and Jerome stated it had originally been created to find enough money to hire a Youth Minister – a Strategic Action Committee.
Faith Formation – met last week. Duty assignments being shifted
Mission Outreach – They meet every other month. It was pointed out that Great River Family Promise is a project they work with.
Adult Education – Mark reported that “Rediscover Catholicism” was handed out following Easter Masses and they ran out. They have ordered more and these will be distributed in Newcomer’s Packets. April 27th is the Healing Mass with Fr. Livingston. The AE committee has recently added 3 new members. Knights of Columbus – Jeff reported that the KC worked with St. Michael Council on the ultrasound machine fund. Together they have raised $29,000 toward its purchase. Elections are being held at the Thursday meeting.
4. Joe Fasen was present and presented his Capstone for his Eagle Scout Project which will be the property across from the church next to McDonalds. The city told Fr. Tony that in order to have the taxes removed St. Henry needs to use that property and Joe would like to help in that effort. He would like to put some trees on the property, a walking path and perhaps a picnic table or bench. Fr. Tony stated that St. Henry has budget $2,000 for this project and Joe’s troop would provide the labor. This project must be completed by July 1st which is the cities application
deadline. Joe was encouraged to talk with Lamont Embree about the project. A motion was made by Colleen to approve this project subject to the approval of the city. Mike Benedetto seconded that motion.
5. Open Questions –
a. Monica was approached by a parishioner about putting a larger crucifix on the wall behind the altar. Father Tony stated this was an ongoing discussion and something that could be another reason for resurrecting the Standing Arts Committee.
b. Jerome was approached about a parishioner who is receiving the Eucharist and is not a Catholic. It was pointed out that the Eucharistic Minister cannot question the intent. There is a practice to NOT confront. Father can be told about any repeat “offenders” and can approach them about RCIA or another alternative.
6. Old Business
Parish Council elections. Names were taken from current members. The ballots will be in the pews this weekend (in Spanish and English) and parishioners will be asked to place ballots in the basket on the Gathering Space table as they leave. Although intent is to have only one weekend of ballots, should others appear they will be given to Jeff who will call those nominated to find out interest. There will be a Discernment meeting at the church on Saturday, May 19th at 10:30 AM
7. New Business
Scrip– Amy Walz was present to discuss the Scrip Program. St. Michael has this program in place and after a couple of years of growth; they gave $11,000 to the school budget from the program. Amy would like to begin immediately with a core group of families to order these cards. Cards are purchased at face value, for example, you pay $100 for a Cub Card. You get $100 for shopping but a percentage of that sale (anywhere from 2% to 11%) comes to St. Henry for that sale. It is Amy’s belief that we need a Youth Minister more full time to work earlier than high school with our youth. She would like to see all proceeds from scrip to go to that program. Fr. Stated that Kym’s hours are being increased and Sr. Carol’s changed a bit to better serve those programs. Amy was thanked for her enthusiastic presentation and the council would discuss this program. That discussion did not take place, the item will be tabled until next month.
Budget Update – We currently have a $35K “gap” that has to be covered and Fr. Tony is VERY interested in paying off the $350K street assessment which would save the parish $60K annually.
Capital Campaign – Father talked at great length about how to work on the debt without another huge capital campaign. Mark suggested we let the parish know that if all 780+ folks who are currently giving would increase that giving by $18 a month we could pay off the debt in two year. Folks don’t want an ongoing campaign; they just need to know how to “fix” the problem Father stated that he will have a meeting with a couple of folks from Finance Committee and a couple from Pastoral Council and they would “hash out” the budget.

Sacrament of Eucharist
Retreat for all children preparing to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist will be on Sat. April 21st 9:00 AM—12:00 Noon. Parents or a Parent must attend retreat with child/children. Godparents are welcome.

Practice for children preparing to receive the Sacrament of Eucharist will be on Tues. April 24th, starting at 5:30 PM. Detailed information will be given at the retreat.
